Our Master's Voice

Dear Brethren,

April 1, 2006 in contrast to its notorious fame as 'All Fools Day' became an "All Stars Day" for Lodge Minchin with the initiation of Bro. Madhav Nair into the fraternity. Minchinites congratulate the SEVEN STARS on this rarest honour! Here is the list of the seven stars:

*W. Bro. V.R. Krishnan Nair, PDGJW

Uncle

*W.Bro. Dr. M. Krishnan Nair, PDGStdBrr

Uncle

*Bro. V.S. Nair

Uncle

*Bro. K. Suresh, Senior Deacon

Cousin

*Bro. G. Santha Mohan

Cousin

*Bro. S. Satheesh Kumar

Cousin

To top this honour, it should be added that, Bro. Madhav's grand uncle Late W. Bro. N. K. Krishna Pillai,  was the W.M. of Lodge Minchin in 1945.

For W. Bro. V.R. Krishnan Nair this is a 'hat trick'. He had earlier initiated his son Bro. K. Suresh and nephew Bro. S. Satheeskumar.

A brief life-sketch of Bro. Madhav is the main theme of next month's Newsletter. It is hoped that it should be possible to present at least one brother every month, two if possible, one senior and one junior. But it needs whole hearted cooperation all brethren, which I am sure will flow in abundance, as has been the case hitherto.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

J.M.I. Sait

Dear Brethren,

April 1, 2006 was the first regular meeting day of this year and was devoted to initiating a brilliant young man from a 3 generations old family of dedicated Freemasons. Bro. Madhav Nair, initiate of the evening has at least three of his uncles and three cousins - in all six - as active members of Lodge Minchin - A rare honour to be the seventh brother in a family - all attending the Lodge Meeting together !! What a marvellous experience it will be to see. Should we not consider seeking an entry in the Guinness Book of Records or at least in the annals of the District of Madras and perhaps the UGLE.

A land mark of the ceremony of initiation was the superb delivery of the Charge after Initiation by Bro. S. Satheeskumar, with barely 3 years standing as a Mason, an accomplishment which even the stalwarts would admire jealously. This and the presentation of the Working Tools by a still junior brother are in keeping with the Lodge's tradition and commitment to ensure meaningful participation of junior brethren in the rituals and ceremonies.

This year, we have a number of ceremonies to be conducted  and I hope that more brethren will come forward to effectively participate in our labour.

We also have the DGL round the corner coming up in August;  the committees are being constituted and we solicit your full support to make the function a grand success.

With happiest Vishu Greetings

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Suresh Mohan

District News:

Brethren may be aware that the Joint Premises Committe of District Grand Lodge of Madras and the Regional Grand Lodge of Southern India (GLI) India have established an in-house catering facility at the DGL premises, which caters for the festive boards being held after the various masonic meetings and such other occasions.

A newer development is the opening of two Hospitality Suites - 'The Middle Chamber' and the 'Rendez Vous' declared open respectively the Regional Grand Master and the District Grand Master. The two suits will be available for use by brethren for private family dining and will be served by the in-house catering facility.

Brethren visiting Chennai, with or without family, may use the facility in the calm, cool and serene atmosphere.

Masonic Education : The Mentor's Page

Dear Brethren,

It is the policy of our Lodge to encourage brethren to make critical study of the craft, its principles and practices, in addition to rendering of ritual portions. It is my sincere request to the younger masons to devote a few hours every week to the study of the science of masonry in order to make a daily advancement in Masonic knowledge. I also urge them to prepare short papers on their understanding of the subject matter which can be presented at various meetings, especially when the Lodge is not working a degree.

I am happy to announce that W. Bro. J.M.I. Sait is planning to conduct a Masonic Training Programme for brethren, particularly the junior brethren, on the pattern developed by the Grand Lodge of Florida, USA, based however, on the English Masonry. At the end of the course there will be a written test - of the objective type- and certificates of proficiency will be issued. The proposal is being given final shape and will be presented to the Permanent Committee, Lodge general body and to the Rt. W. District Grand Master for final approval before it is implemented. You will be appraised of the developments through these columns, as well as on the Lodge website,  from time to time. I wish success to W. Bro. Sait in his endeavour.

Yours sincerely,

B.T. Pillai
